ABOUT
Kristy Montan
I am a family lawyer based out of Kimberley, BC and provide services to the Kootenay region.
My practice covers all family related legal matters and my services range from providing legal advice and drafting agreements, to court- representation.
I believe that effective family law solutions require both practical problem-solving and an understanding of each client’s unique circumstances. Family disputes can be complex, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to resolution. My goal is to help clients identify the process and outcome that best meet their needs while protecting what matters most to them.
Whenever possible, I encourage collaborative and negotiated resolutions. Resolving matters outside of court allows parties to retain greater control over the outcome of their dispute while avoiding much of the time, stress, uncertainty, and expense associated with litigation. When court intervention is necessary, I provide clear, strategic advocacy to help clients navigate the process with confidence.
I have obtained certification as a Co-Parenting Specialist®, which has enhanced my ability to approach parenting disputes through a child-focused lens. This training allows me to help parents move beyond conflict and focus on their children’s best interests while developing practical and sustainable parenting arrangements.
I understand that family law matters often arise during some of the most challenging periods in a person’s life. I am committed to reducing stress, managing complexity, and providing clear guidance so that clients feel informed and supported throughout the process.
I look forward to working with you to develop a solution that is tailored to your unique circumstances and goals.
I was born in the Fraser Valley and worked in Vancouver for 7 years as a legal assistant and paralegal in civil litigation. I was undertaking a degree in legal studies at Capilano University when I gained early admittance to law school at the University of Alberta. I graduated from the University of Alberta with a Juris Doctor degree in 2023 and was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in May 2024. In my spare time, I enjoy yoga, biking, music, and exploring the Kootenay region.
My approach to resolving family disputes involves finding creative solutions to sometimes complex issues. There are many options available to resolving family disputes, but it is important to find the correct solution that is tailored to each unique situation.
