Before specializing in family law, I practised corporate and commercial law at a mid-sized firm. While I was interested in the work, I wanted to connect more directly with people. Guiding clients through the disputes and life-changing decisions inherent in family law has been exactly what I was looking for.
I draw on my corporate background when negotiating the reorganization and division of complex family assets such as family corporations, real estate, and other holdings.
I know firsthand how significant these moments can be, as my parents divorced when I was young. While it wasn’t always easy, they did their best to move through the process collaboratively. I am particularly passionate about helping parents navigate the unique challenges of co-parenting.
I completed four days of specific training and am certified as a Co-Parenting Specialist® through the program offered by Christina McGhee, author of “Parenting Apart”. The training has enriched my understanding of co-parenting dynamics and children’s developmental needs at various ages and stages. I bring this knowledge to my approach to advising parents and crafting parenting plans that go beyond schedules and address children’s real and evolving developmental needs.
Prior to law school, I worked full-time with an individual with Autism Spectrum Disorder, an experience that continues to shape my life and practice. I am especially passionate about helping separated parents navigate the challenges of co-parenting neurodivergent children, when thoughtful and individualized solutions make a world of difference.
Unfortunately, not all cases can or should be resolved outside of court. While my general approach involves “collaboration first”, when litigation is necessary, I bring the insight and experience I gained as a judicial intern to the judges of the Provincial Court of British Columbia during law school. I understand no two families are the same, and no two cases should be treated alike. Whether your matter proceeds to court or resolves outside of it, my role is to advise you, advocate for you, and guide you through this demanding process.
