Before I focused on family law, I practised corporate & commercial law, including business reorganisations, commercial lending and borrowing, foreclosures, and estate planning. While I enjoyed the legal side of this work, I wanted to work more directly with individual people. Guiding people through the disputes and life changing decisions inherent in any family law matter has been exactly what I was looking for. I am also able to fall back on my corporate & commercial law background to assist with negotiating the reorganization and division of complex family assets such as family corporations, real estate holdings, and other portfolios. I also continue to offer estate planning services for individuals and families.
I know firsthand how life-changing these moments can be. My parents divorced when I was seven, and while it wasn’t always easy, they did their best to move through the process collaboratively. That’s something I’ve carried with me and try to bring to my own work.
Not every case can or should be resolved outside of court, but when it’s possible, collaboration can make a real difference – especially when children are involved. When it comes to court, I had the privilege of serving as a judicial intern to the judges of the Provincial Court of British Columbia during my time in law school. Attending proceedings and conducting research and writing to assist judges with decision drafting, I gained a wealth of experience that I bring to my in-court practice.
